Access Databases and Excel Utilities

The following are Access Databases I developed for clients and I didn't sell them, so I am making these databases available to the general public. Requires Access 2000 or later version. Documentation is printed in Adobe Acrobat.

Contact Manager Database
See documentation

Manage your contacts. This database contains not ony the capability to track names, phone numbers and addresses, but also where you met the person, and when you are due to contact them next.

Project Database
See Documentation

Assigning tasks to people and tracking them is a common task in business. This database not only tracks the tasks themselves, but it tracks progress on the tasks, tasks due and overdue, and even has a report on people's assignment. A unique control panel allows you to select parameters to show the tasks you need to see such as high priority tasks assigned to a specific individual that are not yet complete.

Excel Column Transposer
See Documentation
Quite often the preparation of reports depends upon taking information from one spreadsheet and copying and pasting that data into another spreadsheet. The Universal Translator was written as a tool that can do this automatically.

The Excel Column Transposer opens an Excel Spreadsheet or CSV file and copies selected columns from the source file to a destination Excel Spreadsheet or CSV file in a specified order. Data can be copied from the source file and appended to an existing file, overwriting an existing file, or to a newly created file.

Excel Multiple Choice Test Maker
See Documentation

The Excel Test Maker utility allows people to create multiple choice tests that can be taken and
scored by individuals electronically.

The test is created by filling out questions and answers on the Parameters Tab and clicking on
the Make Test Button.

Excel File Comparer
See Documentation

This utility allows you to make a cell-by-cell comparison between two files simply by specifying the two files, and by building a map between the files that specifies the tab and cell for each comparison to be made.

Highlight Rows on an Excel Spreadsheet
(PDF Document)
This is a topic for intermediate users. It involves VBA, but don’t worry, it’s only copy and paste and you do not have to know the first thing about VB coding to use it.

Do you have one of those wide spreadsheets where you are trying to compare something in Column D with something in Column AD and as you scroll along horizontally, you use your place and can’t remember precisely which row you were on?

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just click on a cell and have it highlight the entire row, and unhighlight it when you move to another row?

This can be set up with two very short VB programs and conditional formatting. It takes about 3 minutes to set up, so if you plan to be using the spreadsheet for more than three minutes, it might be worth the effort.

Data Entry Form
See Documentation
Do you have a need for a data entry form that forces users into the correct cells at the moment data is needed? Do you need to force a data entry, and a correct one at that? Do you need to know when a record was added and who added it? Do you need to prevent people from removing already entered data? This spreadsheet demonstrates using the Sheet Change event to manage sequential data entry.

Multiple-Item Pivot Table Page Filter for Excel 2003
See Documentation

Excel 2003 does not have the capability to select multiple items for a Pivot Table Page filter. This utility provides the means to select one of the columns and allow for multiple selection based on that column.

MS-Word Form to MS-Access Database
See Documentation

There are many instances where it is desirable to read the contents of an MS-Word Form and Read the data into a database. This utility allows you to read a directory full of MS-Word Forms, and put the data it reads into a corresponding MS-Access database.
